Victim support for Caia residents

There were two nights of violence in Caia Park
Residents worried about the outbreak of violence near their homes in Wrexham have been offered the chance to get professional help.

Last week around 200 people were in an angry stand-off with police after an earlier incident involving residents from the Caia Park estate and Iraqi Kurd refugees.

A total of 74 people have been arrested following the two nights of disturbances. Fifty five have been charged with violent disorder and other offences.

Victim Support, the national agency set up to help victims of crime, has offered its support to people caught up in the disturbances.

North Wales Police have referred five cases to Victim Support and the agency has sent out letters offering their help.

We want people to know we are here to help in anyway we can and would urge anyone in need of support to contact us

"It must have been frightening for a lot of people, particularly the very young and the elderly," said Tina Davenport from the agency.

"I'm sure there will be those who have been traumatised by recent events.

"We want people to know we are here to help in anyway we can and would urge anyone in need of support to contact us."

Victim Support is funded by the Home Office, working alongside the police, Crown Prosecution Service, Probation Service and Youth Offending Team.
