Estate's comparisons with Caia

There have been 20 arrests by Dyfed-Powys Police
As a Wrexham housing estate recovers from two nights of violence - one of which was racially motivated - unrest on another housing estate in Wales has resulted in 20 arrests.

Whilst the problems on the Mount Estate in Milford Haven have not resulted in the clashes witnessed in Caia Park, residents are still concerned.

On Wednesday police arrested five people in Milford Haven for alleged public order offences and three for allegedly possessing drugs.

Following a raid on Thursday a further 12 people were arrested - seven for alleged drugs offences, three for alleged violent disorder, one for alleged assault and one for alleged harassment.

Police say they are working closely with local community groups to try and stop anti-social behaviour and drug abuse on the estate.

However, for one mother living on the Mount Estate their help has come too late.

"I used to let my children play but it's no longer possible.

"They're not safe; we're not safe to go out to the car.

"We get verbal abuse - certainly day by day it's a very difficult experience," said single mother-of-three Ceri King.

She added: "We've done nothing wrong, we just want to live quietly."

Ms King has lived on the estate for five years but says a rapid increase in anti-social behaviour amongst the youth is pushing her and her family out.

The Acorn Resource Centre was set up by residents two years ago to enable them to access information about jobs and housing.

Colin Robbins who works at the centre said a sharp rise in trouble on the estate in recent weeks means it has turned into a 24 hour job for him.

Wrexham's problems

"Over the last two weekends we've had gangs of young people who are challenging the police and it seems to be spiralling out of control," he said.

"The gangs are intimidating local residents with their behaviour and residents are afraid to complain for fear of retaliation.

"We appreciate the problems here on the Mount are not on the scale of Wrexham but it just highlights that these problems are throughout Wales on a smaller scale."

Residents on the estate have become so concerned about their estate that they have hired a solicitor who will try to take legal action against Pembrokeshire County Council for failing to act.

There was nobody available to comment from the local authority.
