Painting by Sir Kyffin Williams
Three Sir Kyffin Williams paintings are for sale
Paintings from some of Wales' most famous artists can be seen at a new exhibition which has just opened.

Among the exhibits are three oil paintings by Royal Academician Sir Kyffin Williams, expected to sell for up to 13,000.

Y Capel in Llangollen is the first tourism, library and learning centre all under one roof in Wales.

Arts Officer Steve Brake said visitors to the new facility will have lots to see.

"I've put together a commercial stable of artists and we're going to run an exhibition from now until September," he said.

"From September until November we'll be showing local arts and crafts from Llangollen.

"We have three oil paintings by Kyffin here for sale which is quite special.

"They're typical impressionist landscapes and there's a superb portrait of him which Peter Edwards from Oswestry did."

"I wouldn't be surprised if we had a dealer from Cardiff coming here to buy Kyffin's work."

Benefit

Y Capel, the centre's new premises, is a restored 19th Century Baptist chapel in Castle Street.

A glass sculpture by Wrexham artist Chris Byrd-Jones has been specially commissioned to mark the opening by Sir Kyffin Williams.

Denbighshire councillor Gwyneth Kensler said the centre will benefit people throughout Llangollen.

"We are delighted that Sir Kyffin Williams has agreed to officially open Y Capel.

"The arts and crafts gallery is one of many attractions within the building and will provide opportunities for hundreds of artists to showcase their work," she said.
