Two people reported the bogus calls |
An animal charity has warned householders to be on their guard after reports of bogus callers claiming to be raising funds for the organisation. The alarm was raised after two women allegedly went to homes in Gronant, Flintshire and Prestatyn in Denbighshire.
Staff at the North Clwyd Animal Rescue Service based in Trelogan have reported the incident to police.
The women, who approached the householders separately, asked for donations and produced genuine leaflets from the charity.
Suspicious
It is believed the leaflets could have been picked up in one of the charity shops, but their ID badges looked homemade.
The rescue centre's treasurer Anne Owen said the alarm was raised by a local woman who became suspicious.
"A lady who lives in Gronant and whose husband helps us telephoned us after a girl knocked on her door," she said.
"She became suspicious after she'd gone and she phoned us.
"We don't do house-to-house collections anyway."
The charity was telephoned again on Monday night by a Denbighshire county councillor who said one of his constituents had received a similar visit.
"It's worrying that someone's going around doing that and they could be getting quite a bit of money," added Ms Owen.
North Wales Police have urged members of the charity to warn members of the public about the incidents.
