Toy vehicles auctioned for 6,500

A lifetime collection of toy vehicles which filled a room in a collector's home has been auctioned for £6,500.

Two of the rarest aircraft models ever made by Dinky were the highlight of the sale and sold for more than £2,000.

The Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox vehicles amassed by the late collector from Welshpool, Powys, were sold in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

The auctioneers Halls said lots included both boxed and unboxed die-cast models.

A Dinky Avro Vulcan Delta Wing bomber took the top price at £1,500 and a Shetland Flying Boat No 701 made £820, both selling to a West Midlands collector.

Other top selling lots were a group of 11 Pinder Circus vehicles that made £130 and a group of 16 promotional and limited edition models that made £120.

Halls' toys consultant, Stewart Orr, said the collection literally filled a room of the collector's house.
