Bomb unit attends chemical scare

A police officer
Police and the Army were called to Knighton on Tuesday

A man has been arrested after police and an Army bomb disposal unit were called to deal with potentially harmful chemicals found at a property.

Police found the chemicals during a search of an address in Knighton in Powys.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service were alerted along with the bomb disposal team to the incident on Tuesday, and the area was temporarily sealed off.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they had launched an investigation.

Ch Insp Chris Curtis said: "Following the arrest of a male at an address in Knighton - and a subsequent search of the premises - police can reveal a number of chemicals were discovered.

"All the relevant public health agencies have been consulted, which revealed that the chemicals found at the property are not deemed to be dangerous, and therefore, I can assure the community that there is no public health risk.

"I would also like to reassure the members of the community that this is an isolated incident and Powys is one of the safest places to live work and visit in England and Wales."
