Budding reporters were given the chance to present the news like Sara Edwards and forecast the weather with Derek Brockway at a BBC Wales roadshow.

The Here For You event at Lampeter University in Ceredigion on Sunday attracted nearly 2,300 people.

It was part of a month of events, programmes and shows that are taking place in and around the mid Wales town.

Dr Who fans examined one of the Daleks close up and others tried their hand at rugby commentary with BBC Sport.

Among the visitors was retired Lampeter lecturer Dr Ian Barton, who took the chance to sit down again in Mastermind's infamous black chair - for the first time in more than 25 years.

Dr Barton was runner-up in the final of the 1981 quiz, with Roman emperors as his specialist subject.

He said: "I couldn't say that the hairs were standing up on the back of my neck this time - the surroundings were very different!

"I really enjoyed the quiz back in 1981 and now I'm looking forward to seeing what the BBC has to offer at the roadshow."

Sarah Osborne, from Hermon, Carmarthenshire, said: "My daughter particularly liked the Daleks. It's important for the BBC to get out into the community and it's nice to see people who are on our TV screens every day."

Vic Thaller has recently moved to Cardigan from Oxfordshire.

He said: "We've only been in Wales for six months and we've learnt a lot about the country from watching BBC News.

"My wife's mad about Derek the weatherman and I'm interested in seeing how programmes are made."

Around 750 people had attended the event by lunchtime.

Among those meeting the public were presenters Roy Noble and Richard Evans from BBC Radio Wales and Geraint Lloyd, Hywel Gwynfryn and Sian Thomas from BBC Radio Cymru.

The BBC's News Online service and the Mid Wales Where I Live website were also represented, as well as Garry Owen and John Meredith from the Welsh language news programme Newyddion, which is broadcast on S4C.

They were joined by some of the cast from the Welsh language soap opera, Pobol Y Cwm.

Meanwhile, sports fans were able to try their hand at rugby and football commentating.

More than 650 people also visited the BBC Wales community bus.
