The council is facing tough decisions |
Councillors have voted to make more than 60 civil servants redundant in Powys as it attempts to make savings of more than 5m. Departments were asked last October to reduce operational costs by 10% for the next financial year, instead of making cuts to frontline services.
The redundancies include the seven senior managers' posts which were announced last month.
The council currently employs 8,000 staff throughout the county.
Jobs at all levels will be lost, including legal clerks and some information technology staff.
Chairman of the council's board, Michael Jones, warned in December that "knock-on" job losses were expected after he announced that senior managers' posts would be lost.
At the time the council said it had been forced to protect its frontline services, and said it faced a 6m shortfall in its budget.
In October, it criticised its settlement from the assembly government, but local government minister Sue Essex said it was a "good and fair deal".
The council also voted to increase council tax by 3.95% at its meeting in Llandrindod Wells on Thursday.
