Demonstrators stage their protest at the Dairygold site |
About 300 people have staged a protest outside a cheese-packing plant to coincide with a play about its closure. Family and friends of 115 former workers at Dairygold in Felinfach, near Lampeter, staged the show on Thursday.
A tape of Drwg yn y Caws (The bad in the cheese) and the protest will be sent to Dairygold and Countryside Minister Carwyn Jones.
The firm, which set up in Felinfach with a 1.2m grant, has blamed the "harsh realities of the marketplace".
An official from Dairygold, Don McCarthy, and Carwyn Jones, were both portrayed by actors at Theatr Felinfach.
Afterwards buses ferried people the short distance from the theatre to Dairygold's factory.
'Tongue-in-cheek'
Play director Euros Lewis said after the performance to a full house, about 300 people marched around the factory as "a symbolic protest".
He said: "A video tape of the play and the protest will be sent to Dairygold and to Carwyn Jones to show the strength of feeling still felt in Felinfach about the closure of the plant."
Protesters said closure of the business in Ceredigion in April severely affected the local community.
Mr Lewis said its purpose was to "learn lessons" and to "change policies".
He described it as a "satirical, tongue-in-cheek" look at how officials coped with the closure.
