Zandra Rhodes and Andrew Logan have been friends for years

She was guest of honour of her friend Andrew Logan at his Festival of Fashion in Berriew, near Welshpool, at the weekend.

Ms Rhodes and other industry experts staged workshops for students from Coleg Powys Newtown and others.

It culminated on Sunday with a fashion show, when Ms Rhodes and the young hopefuls exhibited their work.

Zandra Rhodes was one of the new wave of British designers who put London at the forefront of the international fashion scene in the 1970s.

She said: "Andrew and I have been friends since the early 70s, partly because a lot of my friends are artists.

"I commissioned him to do a portrait of me that is now in the National Portrait Gallery.

"We are really just two great friends and mutual admirers of each other's work."

Ms Rhodes, whose first solo exhibition was in Cardiff in 1978, said she saw the weekend as a contribution to the future of fashion.

"When you get to a certain age, it's quite nice if you can also help to be an inspiration to other people."

Mr Logan's festival was held at his museum of sculpture in Berriew and its community centre.

A sculptor and artist, he also designs and makes jewellery. Among the owners of his work are singer Sir Elton John and actress and comedian Dawn French.

On Saturday evening, festivalgoers had the opportunity to fire questions at Ms Rhodes and Mr Logan.

During the day there was a hat workshop with designer Brian Harris and a film costume workshop with Whittaker and Malem, who worked on the films Troy and the James Bond blockbuster Die Another Day.

The costumes and hats were worn at the fashion show on Sunday, which also featured some of Ms Rhodes' designs with Mr Logan's jewellery.

Also on Sunday, there was be a fashion jumble sale at the old school hall in Berriew.
