Pub ban plan for unruly drinkers
Drinker in a pub (generic)
The scheme has operated in Newtown for four months
A scheme to tackle drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour is being rolled out across pubs in north Powys.

Behave Or Be Banned (BOBB) works on the principle of barred from one, barred from all.

It has operated in Newtown since August and 33 people face restrictions. It is now in force in Llanidloes, Welshpool and Machynlleth.

Police and licensees are extending the scheme in light of new extended drinking licences.

'Welcomed by licensees'

People will be restricted from entering pubs in the town where they have caused trouble.

Landlords and ladies also receive photographs of individuals who have behaved in an "anti-social manner" to remind staff who is excluded.

Powys licensing officer, Pc Dave Walker, said: "This scheme is being welcomed by all the licensees and is a positive step in promoting responsible drinking with the recent relaxation of hours.

"It will target those few irresponsible people who behave in an unacceptable and anti-social manner making a safer and more enjoyable environment for licensees, staff and their customers."

Pc Walker said individual pubs had banned unruly individuals for many years, but the BOBB scheme would provide a more "consistent approach to licensed premises".
