Unmarked police car crash inquiry
An investigation into a fatal crash involving an unmarked police car is to be overseen by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The two-car accident in which the civilian driver died, happened at 0730 BST on Monday on the A483 road between Newtown and Dolfor in Powys.

The road remained closed for most of the day while crash investigators examine the scene.

The police driver of the Dyfed-Powys Police car has serious injuries.

Both drivers were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where the civilian driver was pronounced dead.

Dyfed-Powys Police referred the fatal accident to the IPCC - overall responsibility for the police complaints system in England and Wales - later on Monday.

The IPCC said its commissioner for Wales, Tom Davies, will manage the investigation, which will be carried out by-Dyfed Powys force with specialist help from the South Wales Police accident investigation department.

Mr Davies said: "I would like to offer my condolences to the deceased man's family and friends. I will be making every effort to meet with the family at their convenience to explain the IPCC role in investigating this tragic accident."

A spokesman said it was not thought that the police car was responding to an emergency call at the time of the crash.
