Ms Whitehead set up Little Sunbeams in 2003 |
A woman has been arrested and questioned by police following a complaint about her fund to help sick babies. Angela Whitehead, from Llanon, near Aberystwyth, has been bailed while further inquiries are carried out.
Her Little Sunbeams appeal was set up to raise money for a baby care unit at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.
Ceredigion and Mid Wales NHS Trust had not heard from Ms Whitehead for some months and informed police.
A local newspaper claimed earlier this month the Little Sunbeams appeal had raised thousands of pounds for Bronglais Hospital, but it confirmed it had so far received just 2,500 from the fund.
Detective Inspector Mark Bergmanski, of Dyfed-Powys Police in Aberystwyth, said: "She has been arrested and questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries."
It is unclear where Ms Whitehead was arrested, but she has been bailed to an address in Leeds.
Her partner Craig Morris said Ms Whitehead had been caring for a sick relative in Leeds since before Christmas.
The Little Sunbeams appeal was set up in August 2003 after her daughter gave birth prematurely.
Ms Whitehead said at the time she hoped to raise 50,000 for equipment for the special care baby unit at Bronglais.
The health trust said people who wanted to donate money to the unit could still do so by contacting the hospital directly instead of via Little Sunbeams.
