More than 200,000 visitors regularly attend the Royal Welsh |
Powys, the county which is home to the centrepiece of Welsh agricultural life - the Royal Welsh Show - will not have an official marquee there this year. Powys Council has had to make two per cent savings across all departments, including at the show.
It says it will save 20,000 by not having its usual marquee at this year's centenary show at Llanelwedd in July.
The authority says it regrets the decision while the show organisers say they are disappointed too.
Powys Council spokesman John Evans said there would be some council staff at the event which takes place over four days from 19 to 22 July this year.
"Our trading standards officers will keep an eye on the numerous stands at the show, and our tourism staff will also be there advising visitors to county," he said Mr Evans.
"But regrettably there will be no official marquee there this year."
The local authority has had an official presence at the show every year since becoming a unitary authority in 1996, apart from 2001 when foot-and-mouth forced the show to be cancelled.
This year marks the Royal Welsh's centenary and show organisers said they were disappointed that Powys Council would not be officially represented.
