En suite and private rooms and single sex wards are available at a mid Wales hospital which has undergone a �3m overhaul. The redevelopment of Welshpool Hospital has taken two years to complete.
As well as upgrading patient accommodation, specialist health care has also been modernised.
A new X-ray department has opened with state-of-the-art digital equipment capable of sending images to other hospitals for advice and diagnosis.
Endoscope services have been improved and a dedicated suite has been allocated for patients.
The new site on Salop Road caters for X-ray, outpatients, physiotherapy, minor injuries, occupational therapy and maternity services.
It provides women in labour with a home from home setting in which to deliver their babies.
Powys Local Health Board chief executive, Andy Williams, said: "The completion of this extensive project underlines the LHB's commitment to developing Welshpool Hospital as a front line community health care facility.
"We have extended the range and scale of services on offer and already have plans to use the old outpatients building as a training and development centre for Montgomeryshire."
The 31-bed Maldwyn ward has en suite facilities, and the ward has dining and day-room areas.
