Weather warnings for walkers
Snowdon
The mountain attracts thousands of visitors every year
A free weather web site has been launched for the thousands of climbers and walkers who use Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons.

The Met Office site provides specific information about weather conditions for the area.

It is hoped the site will give warnings of potentially hazardous conditions and reduce the number of accidents.

Over 300, 000 people attempt to climb to the summit of Snowdon every year - on average six people die and about 70 are injured.

Sam Roberts as warden for the Snowdonia National Park Authority advises visitors about routes and conditions.

"The weather at the summit ranges from paradise to hell," he said.

From one hour to the next, from one hill to the next, there can be a big change in weather conditions
Forecaster Derek Brockway

"There are extremes on the summit that you could get in most places in the world.

"This time of year people are still thinking Summer but nature is thinking winter and sometimes the conditions can change quiet quickly."

The web site was set up as a way of providing safety information for people who take part in outdoor activities.

BBC Wales meteorologist Derek Brockway said: "From one hour to the next, from one hill to the next, there can be a big change in weather conditions.

"The forecast is designed to make life safer for walkers and mountaineers.

"The forecast consists of information like speed, visibility and temperature and is available free of charge."
