The poet's daughter give a reading of her father's work |
A Ceredigion trail marking the area's connections with writer Dylan Thomas will be officially opened by his daughter on Tuesday. The centrepiece of the New Quay launch will be the involvement of Dylan's daughter, Aeronwy, and includes a reception at the Black Lion Hotel - one of the writer's favourite watering holes.
After the ribbon-cutting, Ms Thomas will be joined by 30 members of the Dylan Thomas Society and local dignitaries at the pub.
Ms Thomas will read extracts from the poet's works and recount stories of her family's time in Ceredigion.
Although Dylan's connections with Ceredigion are well established they are not recognised in tourist terms |
The new trail, opened to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the writer's death, has been created by CeiDev, a community regeneration organisation.
The trail aims to encourage tourists to visit Ceredigion as well as Laugharne and Swansea, places which are more traditionally associated with Thomas.
Longer stay
It is the latest trail to be added to 'Writers Routes' a new campaign which links the areas associated with the writer.
"Although Dylan's connections with Ceredigion are well established they are not recognised in tourist terms, said CeiDev project worker, Bronwen Raine.
"Combining trips to Laugharne and Swansea with a visit to Ceredigion makes for a longer stay in Wales for visitors," said Mrs Raine.
"We hope that this year is just the start of the county benefiting from its links with Dylan Thomas."
A Dylan Thomas festival will be based at New Quay this September |
The Dylan Thomas Ceredigion Trail can be walked end to end in three days.
It runs from Llanon to Talsarn, along the Aeron Valley to Aberaeron, and along a coastal path through New Quay to its end at Llangrannog.
The trail takes walkers through some of the poet's favourite parts of the county, including the places that inspired some of his best writing.
He moved to the village of Talsarn, near Lampeter, in 1941 and lived a nomadic lifestyle during the war, staying at a hotel in Lampeter, a cottage at Talgarreg and a bungalow in New Quay.
He visited pubs at Felinfach, Llangeitho, Llanon, Llangrannog, Aberaeron and New Quay, where the family lived in a small bungalow from 1944.
The opening of the trail is the first of many events in Ceredigion marking the anniversary of the poet's death.
New Quay will host a Dylan Thomas festival in September, which includes an exhibition by artist John Selway and will include a performance of Under Milk Wood at Aberaeron.
