| Wednesday, 6 September, 2000, 10:05 GMT 11:05 UK Wood power station decision due ![]() The sawmill is a major employer in Newbridge The future of plans to build Wales's first wood burning power station in north Wales is due to be decided. The plant is part of the modernisation of a sawmill at Newbridge-on-Wye near Llandrindod Wells in Powys. But there remains strong opposition to the scheme which councillors are being advised to reject.
BSW says without a state-of-the-art processing plant - including Wales' s first wood-burning power station - allowing every scrap of wood to be used, the business does not have a future. The power station would produce enough clean energy to supply 30,000 homes. In the face of strong local opposition an earlier plan was rejected amid fears of the station's environmental impact and extra lorry traffic. Powys councillors will again be asked on Wednesday to reject the latest scheme on the same grounds. |
