The bus was still at the crash scene on Saturday afternoon.

A woman has died after a road crash involving a car and a bus in Blaenau Gwent.

Her Rover convertible was involved in a crash with a Stagecoach bus between Aberbeeg and Llanhilleth.

One passenger on the X18 from Ebbw Vale to Newport bus suffered slight injuries and the driver was shaken but unhurt.

The A467 was closed for evidence to be gathered and diversions were set up. Gwent Police said it was too early to say if icy conditions were a factor.

The crash happened at 10.52 GMT on Saturday between the A4046 and B4471 near the Glandwr industrial estate and the woman, who was later named as 39-year-old Michelle Jenkins from Newbridge, died at the scene.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said: "Our first thoughts are with the family of the driver of the car who died in the accident.

"The bus was operating the X18 service between Ebbw Vale and Newport. One passenger on the bus was treated for minor cuts and bruises. Our driver was shaken, but uninjured.

"We will assist the police in any way we can as part of their investigation into the accident," the spokesperson added.

Gwent Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 01633 838111.

Sgt Andy Elliott, of the road traffic unit, said it was too early to say whether icy conditions were a factor.

The road was being re-gritted before it was reopened.
