| Friday, 7 July, 2000, 19:03 GMT 20:03 UK Wanted: home for 'unluckiest dog' ![]() Sweep has been turned down by many dog lovers One of the UK's unluckiest dogs - stuck in animal shelters for 11 years - could be set to find his first home. Sweep had been turned down by dozens of prospective owners during his time in kennels. The borsoi-cross spent his first 10 years at an animal shelter in Northern Ireland before being taken on by the National Canine Defence League shelter in Bridgend, south Wales. Their efforts to find him a home could well be rewarded, with hundreds of callers responding to an appeal for a caring home. The shelter said an estimated 1,000 callers had responded to an appeal on BBC Wales and it is hoped to find Sweep a new home within a fortnight. Sarah McKay, from Bridgend NCDL, said: "We will not be housing him with any other animals or young children. ![]() Sarah McKay: 'Greyhound-type dogs not appealing' She added: "I think the worst thing he has had going for him is that he is black and a greyhound-type, which not a lot of people want. "We just want someone who can take him for a little walk and have a sofa for him to lie on." |
