Rugby international Gavin Henson has been cautioned by police investigating an allegation of assault during a night out with three Wales team-mates.

The Ospreys star, 27, and Andy Powell, Rhys Thomas and Jonathan Thomas had already apologised to the Welsh Rugby Union over their behaviour.

South Wales Police said it investigated an assault allegation at a premises in St Mary Street, Cardiff on 15 February.

The force said a man, 27, was cautioned "in relation to the incident".

A spokesman said it was alleged to have happened at around 2100.

Henson and his team-mates had been out in Cardiff, the day after Wales' Six Nations win over England, and had been at the Queen's Vaults pub in Westgate Street, opposite the Millennium Stadium.

They each admitted to "varying degrees of regrettable conduct", a statement from the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) said at the time.

The WRU said they were "rebuked" after each admitted to "varying degrees of regrettable conduct".

Management reminded players that their presence in the city centre "exposed them to situations where their conduct was under close scrutiny and their behaviour should have reflected that".

Meanwhile, Henson has been ruled out of action for up to six weeks with an ankle ligament injury.

He arrived with his leg in a cast at an event with fellow Ospreys players in Port Talbot.

It marked the 10th anniversary of the Sports Council for Wales' community chest grants scheme.
