The probe into Carmarthenshire NHS Trust follows the death of Graham Reeves. Mr Reeves, from Burry Port, had his only healthy kidney removed in a bungled operation at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.
Welsh Health Secretary Jane Hutt invited them to look into management and health care at Carmarthenshire NHS Trust, to help restore public confidence and staff morale. Both were badly damaged after Graham Reeves had the wrong kidney removed in an operation at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. The inquest into his death awaits a separate inquiry by Dyfed-Powys Police. The health commission's work begins in earnest with the five member team - all from outside Wales - meeting local people and community health groups. Carmarthenshire NHS Trust has welcomed their investigation as a positive move. Once complete, the commission's report will be presented to the National Assembly for Wales. A summary of their findings and any recommendations will also be published. |
