The school will have to be demolished
North Wales Police are investigating the possibility that a fire which destroyed a primary school was deliberately started.

Ysgol Gynradd Bodedern on Anglesey, will have to be demolished following the blaze which broke out in the early hours of Friday.

Firefighters were called to the school near Holyhead at 0240BST when the building was already well alight with flames visible through the roof.

It took six crews from Llangefni, Holyhead and Rhosneigr several hours to extinguish the flames.

"The fire was assisted by the weather conditions with the wind at the time," said Alan Impett of North Wales Fire Service.

"Crews quickly got into the school land established control."

Eyewitnesses reported the entire middle of the building was engulfed in flames.

Education authority staff hope to accommodate the school's 95 pupils in the village's secondary school from next Monday.

Forensic science experts are now sifting through the rubble in an attempt to find the cause.

They say they are keeping an open mind at present but arson has not been ruled out.
