Snow and ice caused problems for motorists with road closures and hazardous driving conditions early on Thursday. Sleet and snow fell overnight in parts of Wales. Denbighshire was badly hit with the A5 at Llangollen closed due to debris on the road. The A542 was also closed at the Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen. North Wales Police later said all roads which were hit by snowfall have reopened. Ice and snow caused problems between the B5429 at Llanbedr-Dyffryn-Clwyd in Denbighshire and the B5430 at Llanarmon-yn-Ial. Driving was also been hazardous on the A525 between Denbigh and Ruthin. In Carmarthenshire, the A4069 mountain road at Brynamman was closed in both directions due to flooding and ice. Snow also fell on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road near Merthyr Tydfil. On Wednesday, snow fell across parts of Wales, with one town experiencing its coldest October day since 1946. Aberporth in Ceredigion struggled to reach 5C (41f), at least seven degrees below the seasonal average, said BBC meteorologist Derek Brockway. He said the last time there was snow in October in Wales was in 2003. "The reason for the rain and snow is an area of low pressure," said Mr Brockway. "That will move away to France [on Thursday] with a cold wind developing across Britain." A snowy Snowdonia taken from Newborough on Anglesey
