Hauliers are calling on the Government to cut fuel duty urgently

A protest at two oil refineries in west Wales by hauliers angry about the cost of fuel has ended.

Around 65 lorries went to the Chevron refinery in Pembroke Dock and Murco in Milford Haven on Monday.

The hauliers broke up their protest after securing a meeting with Transport Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones next week to discuss their concerns.

One of the protestors, Michael Gough, said the demonstrators felt they had made their point.

The protest started on Sunday evening after lorry drivers took part in a go-slow, leaving Cross Hands in Carmarthenshire at 1900 BST.

They arrived in Pembrokeshire at 2100 BST and stayed overnight outside the refineries until Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Gough said the peaceful protest came to an end following the arrangement of a meeting with the transport minister.

"We felt we had made out point. Last night we stopped the tankers going out (of the refineries) and showed we could do that," said Mr Gough.

"We felt we had got the fact over that as an industry we are suffering and cannot go on any more."

Ieuan Wyn Jones has agreed to meet a delegation group of four on Tuesday in the Senedd to discuss their concerns.
