| Monday, 1 May, 2000, 14:13 GMT 15:13 UK Coastguard warning after needless search ![]() The men set off from Conwy in north Wales Coastguards are urging people to report any changes of plans in their sailing schedules, after a massive land, air and sea search for two missing boatmen off the north Wales coast. Both men, who are from Liverpool, were found safe and well. They had spent the night at Cemaes Bay on Anglesey - but had failed to let anyone know about their change of plan.
The alarm was raised on Sunday evening when the pair failed to return to Conwy. Four coastguard teams, three lifeboats and a RAF rescue helicopter were involved in the search for the men on board their 20ft power boat Sea Dancer. Coastguards at Holyhead on Anglesey broadcast emergency messages to the boat while the search went on but received no response. The search area included the Menai Straits, Conwy Bay and along the east coast of Anglesey.
Coastguards also checked harbours including the Isle of Man and considered calling in a RAF Nimrod search aircraft. The pair in their 50s, were found in the early hours of Monday moored in Cemaes Bay in Anglesey. They were totally unaware of the search for them, until they returned to their boat and heard a radio message. |
