Vandalism costs the rail industry �26m

The video, launched in Cardiff on Friday, is timed to coincide with the start of the school Easter holidays in Wales - a time when trackside incidents have risen in the past.

New figures from Great Western, the train company which serves Wales, the West of England and Devon and Cornwall, show that Cardiff Central and other stations in the capital are the worst for instances of trespass and vandalism.

It costs the rail industry �26m a year - but the cost in human terms is far greater.

Chief Inspector Roy Hewlin, of the British Transport Police said he feared more children may be hurt.

"We have more than 100 people killed nationwide," he said.

"And we have youngsters with serious injuries.

"It is a constant problem which increases with the light evenings and the fact that we have Easter approaching and the light evenings."
