An exhibition of paintings and sketches by Sir Kyffin Williams is opening at Erddig in Wrexham.

The 40 original works, which are all on loan from Anglesey's Oriel Ynys Mn, will be on show at the National Trust property until 6 June.

Sir Kyffin, who died aged 88 last September, is one of Wales' best known artists of recent times.

Organisers said the exhibition was "a great opportunity" to show his work to new audiences.

Erin Robinson, Erddig's visitor services manager at Erddig said they were looking forward to hosting the collection.

"They all beautifully capture the people and area Sir Kyffin Williams knew and loved," she said.

A project is under way to build a permanent exhibition at Anglesey's Oriel Ynys Mn to showcase its collection of more than 400 of Sir Kyffin's paintings.

Alun Gruffudd of Anglesey Council said Oriel Ynys Mn was "very pleased" to be loaning the works to Erddig.

"This special exhibition is a great opportunity to showcase [Sir Kyffin's] work to new audiences," he said.
