Museum checks for 'Nazi' paintings

The National Museums and Galleries of Wales organisation says further checks are needed to ensure some of its works of art were not the result of looting from Jewish people by the Nazis during World War II.
The NMGW, which includes the National Museum of Wales, is studying a list to check whether 27 of their paintings and 12 sculptures may be the result of Nazi looting.
It is part of a UK-wide scheme to track down Nazi-stolen art.
The National Museum has studied the origins of its collection - targeting pre-1945 art which was bought by the museum after 1933.

They are satisfied about the origin of 25 works but the origin of the remaining 27 oil paintings and 12 sculptures has not been proven satisfactorily.
The paintings under suspicion include works by Francesco Albani, Il Baciccio, Pierre Bonnard and Peter Paul Rubens.
The museum is still investigating its collection of 28,000 prints and drawings - and that process will be complete in 2002.
The National Library of Wales said it had no suspected Nazi art in its collection.
