Thomas had been banned from going within 2km of the stadium |
A car salesman, banned from going within 2km of the Millennium Stadium, has narrowly escaped jail for glassing a Swansea City football fan in a pub. Audi salesman Christian Thomas, 30, admitted unlawful wounding and breaching a football banning order.
Benjamin Thomas had been watching Swansea's League One play-off final last May when he was glassed in the face, Cardiff Crown Court heard.
Christian Thomas, from Canton, Cardiff, was given a 48-week suspended sentence.
Prosecutor Richard Evans told the court that Mr Thomas had been in the Halfway pub in Cathedral Road watching Swansea's play-off final with Barnsley, being played at the Millennium Stadium, when he became aware of (Christian) Thomas taunting him.
Witnesses heard someone shouting anti-Swansea abuse before Mr Thomas was hit in the face with the glass, the court heard.
The court heard that (Christian) Thomas, who earns 40,000-a-year as a car salesman, broke a court order banning him from going within 2km of the Millennium Stadium on the day of the match.

The court heard he already has three convictions for public order offences.
Defence counsel Christopher Rees told the court the defendant had not set out to hurt Mr Thomas and that he had acted recklessly and not deliberately.
Thomas, of Canton, Cardiff, wept as the court was told that he was due to get married in August and that prison would ruin his prospects.
Judge John Curran told him that offences of this nature normally justified custodial sentences but said he would suspend his 11-month sentence for two years.
"Although this was a serious offence I am satisfied that your actions were reckless rather than deliberate," he said.
Thomas will also have to do 120 hours unpaid work in the community, was fined 400 and will have to pay his prosecution costs.
