Mr Opik said his relationship with Miss Irimia was 'genuine'

MPs shouted: "Who's a cheeky boy?" as Mr Opik rose to speak at Northern Ireland questions.

He responded: "I think Honourable Members should leave any cheeky business completely to me."

Mr Opik announced before Christmas that he was dating Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia, after ending his engagement to ITV weather presenter Sian Lloyd.

It later emerged that he spoke to a Home Office minister about the 24-year-old pop singer and her twin sister Monica, who were having difficulties with their immigration status.

But Welsh Liberal Democrat officials have said they were satisfied the 41-year-old Montgomeryshire MP had done nothing wrong in discussing his new girlfriend's visa problem.

His local party has also supported his actions.

Later, during Prime Minister's question time Mr Opik faced more laughter when he rose to ask a question about motor neurone disease.

Before asking the question, he said: "Not wishing to be cheeky, Mr Speaker, I thank the House for being so happy that I am so very, very lucky.

"And I should point out that the other sister is still single," he added.

Mr Opik ended a two-year engagement to Ms Lloyd, 48, before he began dating Miss Irimia.

He said his relationship with the Cheeky Girl was "genuine" and "not out of a pantomime".

The Cheeky Girls arrived in the UK from Romania in 2002 and shot to fame with appearances on reality TV shows Popstars: The Rivals and Model Behaviour.
