Gales and heavy rain on the way
Flooding
Low-lying areas are at the most risk of flooding
After weeks of being battered by heavy wind and rain, most of Wales enjoyed something of a respite on Wednesday - but it is only temporary.

According to weather forecasters, more heavy rain and gale-force winds are on the way with gusts reaching up to 80 mph in exposed parts.

Storms earlier in the week left homes in parts of the south and west Wales flooded and train services disrupted.

Flood warnings remain on four rivers in north Wales. Others are on flood watch.

BBC Wales weatherman Derek Brockway said heavy rain and gale-force winds are expected on Wednesday night, followed by severe gales on Thursday.

Winds could reach up to 80 mph in exposed parts of south and west Wales, which could cause damage and make travelling difficult, he warned.

And with the ground already saturated there was a risk of flooding across Wales, particularly in low-lying areas.

Forecasts show there could be a lull on Friday and Saturday before the threat of more gales and flooding on Sunday.

Almost a third of the average rainfall for December has already fallen at Capel Curig in the past three days.

Although things may improve by the weekend the unsettled weather looks set to continue until the middle of December.
