Arrest over multiple death crash

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a car crash in south Wales which killed four school friends.

Louise Jones and Kayleigh Parry, both 16, and Katie Roberts and Danielle Caswell, both 15, died eight days ago.

Police said they were interviewing the 17-year-old from the Ebbw Vale area. The driver and front seat passenger, also 17, were both treated in hospital.

The funerals of the girls, all from the Ebbw Vale area, will be on Tuesday.

The girls, who were all pupils at Glyncoed Comprehensive School, died after the Vauxhall Corsa in which they were passengers crashed on the B4560 Llangynidr to Beaufort Road on the evening of Thursday, 2 November.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said on Friday: "Police can confirm that a 17-year-old male from the Ebbw Vale area has today been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

"He is currently being interviewed by police."

She added that no further information would be available until Monday morning.

An inquest into the girls' deaths has been opened and adjourned.
