The gates and fence at Charlotte Church's Cardiff home

The fence is above metal gates at the home she shares with rugby star Gavin Henson in the Llandaff area of Cardiff.

The classical singer turned pop star did not seek planning permission for the fence and made a retrospective application with Cardiff Council.

The council said officials would visit and ask her neighbours their views.

The wooden fence was recently added to the 10ft (3m) metal gates the 20-year-old former child star had previously installed at the house months after moving in at the end of 2005.

A spokeswoman for the host of Channel 4's irreverent Charlotte Church Show declined to comment.

'Consultation'

A Cardiff Council spokeswoman said: "The fence is over 2m (6ft 5in) high so it needs planning permission.

"A retrospective planning application has now been lodged.

"The next stage will be a consultation with local councillors and neighbours living adjacent to the property, as normal, then it will come back before the planning committee."

The spokeswoman added planning officials would also be conducting a site visit, but could not say when that would be.

People living near the house said they did not mind the fencing.

One, Louise Pletcher, who lives several doors away, said: "I generally don't mind. She presumably wants her privacy and it doesn't bother me.

"There are often photographers on the road interested in hers and Gavin's comings and goings, so presumably she wants to be private.

"I have no objection to the gates whatsoever."
