Catherine Zeta Jones is still keen on a wedding in her native Wales, according to the brother of her fiance Michael Douglas. Actor-comedian Eric Douglas says his future sister-in-law still favours tying the knot at the Clyne Chapel near her old home in Mumbles near Swansea despite the chance of a wedding in California or Majorca.
In an interview for this week's "Now" magazine, Eric Douglas said: "Catherine wants to please everyone but it sounds like she's leaning towards a wedding in her home town." The venue for the wedding of the Hollywood superstars has been a matter of hot speculation. The 30-year-old actress is known to be keen to tie the knot in a small chapel - just a short distance from her family home. During a Christmas holiday in Wales, Miss Jones and Mr Douglas were seen sitting in a car outside Clyne Chapel, overlooking Swansea Bay.
At the time the Rev George Bennett said: "I have not had any approaches from the couple but, of course, I will be happy to talk to them if they so wish," he added. The other options for the couple to exchange their marriage vows could be locations close to Mr Douglas's homes in Majorca, Los Angeles, Manhattan or Bermuda. But in the latest interview the 19th century chapel seems to be gaining ground. 'Driving her mad' Eric Douglas revealed that while his brother Michael's remote mountain villa in Majorca was a possibility, the Clyne Chapel was still the favourite venue. But he said that the star of The Haunting had changed her mind "about every 30 minutes since Michael proposed". "It's driving her mad trying to decide. Her family and friends are in Wales, but Michael's are scattered around the US," said Eric Douglas.
He said one of the things worrying the Mask of Zorro actress was the prospect of having to fly her whole family to America - especially her frail 84-year-old grandmother, Zeta. But the prospect of the wedding of the year being held in Swansea has excited local businesses. Swansea wedding dress designer Stephanie Allin claimed she could create a masterpiece. "I would do something special for her, something mature and very embroidered, it would be lovely,"she said. Wales has not seen a love match of this showbiz magnitude since Richard Burton brought his bride Elizabeth Taylor back to Pontrhydyfen in the 1960s. Friends of Miss Jones believe she would choose to get married in Wales. Peter Robb-King, a make-up artist, thought there could be two ceremonies. "I am sure that Catherine would want to get married in Wales, because that's where her roots are, but she's such an international star that I am sure there would be another service in the United States," he said. |
