Ben Roberts was pronounced dead at Llyn Gwynant
A 20-year-old man from Greater Manchester has died while swimming in a lake in Snowdonia in north Wales.

Ben Roberts, from Wythenshawe, was on a camping trip with friends when they took a dip in Llyn Gwynant on Saturday.

The alarm was raised at 1010 BST when he failed to surface. His body was found a short time later.

Greater Manchester Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious. A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Monday.

His body was recovered by firefighters using an inflatable dinghy.

An air ambulance was also called but Mr Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene.

In June,15-year-old Reuben Morgan from Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil, drowned at Pontsticill reservoir in the Brecon Beacons after swimming there with a group of friends.

Earlier this month a multimedia campaign was launched by Welsh Water warning young people about the dangers of swimming in reservoirs.

  • Nine adults were rescued after being cut off by the tide at Worms Head on Gower on Saturday.

The stranded group used a newly-installed bell on the island to alert people that they had been cut off.

Four people swam across the gap with the mainland while the others were rescued by the Horton RNLI inshore lifeboat.

  • A diver reported missing off the Pembrokeshire coast was found near rocks called the Green Bridge of Wales.

A passer-by saw the diver's colleague aboard a boat, waving his arms to raise the alarm when he realised his friend had not surfaced.

Coastguards said the boat had no radio and they had to shout from the shoreline.

A large-scale rescue operation involving two lifeboats - one from Tenby - and a rescue helicopter was launched.

The diver was found alive but was checked over by paramedics.
