The Bill will give the assembly greater powers

Opposition peers have forced a series of changes in the House of Lords to the Government of Wales Bill.

But the Bill was altered in the Commons after compromises were reached between the Wales Office and Liberal Democrats.

It is expected the Bill will receive Royal Assent on Tuesday, seeing the biggest transfer of power to Wales since the assembly was set up in 1999.

MPs have reinstated the "dual candidacy ban", which Lords had removed from the Bill.

The ban prevents candidates standing in seats and on regional lists during assembly elections.

Welsh Secretary Peter Hain said the compromises made to the Bill were "improvements" and paid tribute to the Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Lembit Opik for trying to improve the bill rather than blocking it.
