A rare tapestry - one of only two in the world - has returned to the mid Wales church where it hung unrecognised for more than two centuries. The sixteenth century Flemish work shows Christ entering Jerusalem and was secretly removed from St Andrews church in Presteigne three years ago when its rarity was realised.
At one time it looked as if the tapestry would have to be sold to fund repair work to the church and because insurance costs would be high.
But grants from CADW, the Heritage lottery fund and local fundraising, the tapestry has been cleaned and repaired by experts at Hampton Court palace.
It is now to hang once again in the church where it lay undisturbed for 250 years after being donated by a wealthy local family.
