Cardiff schools proposals
Eleven primary and six secondary schools could close in Cardiff as part of a reorganisation.

This is the full list of proposals which will go out to public consultation.

The timescale of the changes vary. Some of the closures are several years away.

The recommendations are:

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Llanedeyrn High School to close
Llanrumney to close
Rumney to close
Cantonian to close
Mary Immaculate to close
St Illtyd to close and become new Welsh-medium secondary

A new community secondary will be opened to serve Llanrumney and Rumney on the site of the present Llanrumney High School

Whitchurch High School - the upper school is to be reduced in size. The lower site (on Manor Way) will become a new Roman Catholic Secondary School

Llanrumney catchment
Penybryn Primary to close
St Mellons Church in Wales Primary to close
Greenway Primary to close

Whitchurch catchment
Eglwys Wen to close - building to be used by Melin Gryffydd

Cathays catchment
St Anne's Church in Wales to close by August 2007

Fitzalan catchment
Radnor Road Primary to close - buildings to be used for Ysgol Treganna

Cardiff High catchment
Springwood Primary to close

Llanishen High catchment
Cefn Onn to close - buildings to be used by Ysgol Y Wern
Bryn Celyn to close

A new school will be built to serve Pontprennau and old St Mellons, opening September 2008

Cantonian catchment
Peter Lea Primary in Fairwater to close

Willows High School catchment
St Cuthberts Roman Catholic Primary in Butetown to close by August 2007

Elsewhere
Gwaelod y Garth Primary - the English-medium stream will close and become a fully Welsh-medium school
Michaelstone Community College (old Glan Ely High) to federate with Glyn Derw
Millbank Primary in the Caerau area to close and become a Welsh-medium primary
Moorland Nursery in Splott to close
Ty Gwyn Special School to be relocated to Fitzalan
