Falklands war veteran Simon Weston has been given a boost by Hollywood legend Paul Newman.

Actor Newman has given a 19,500 donation to the charity run by the former Welsh Guardsman.

Newman - famous for his film classics including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Colour of Money - met Weston while the ex-serviceman was running the New York Marathon.

The two hit it off immediately and now Newman is backing Simon's charity.

Simon, from Nelson in the South Wales valleys, runs the Weston Spirit aimed at helping underprivileged youngsters.

The actor founded Newman's Own Food Company which gives 100% of its profits to charity.
