| Sunday, 17 October, 1999, 18:04 GMT 19:04 UK Actor moved by Weston Spirit ![]() Simon Weston's set up a charity to help disadvantaged children Falklands war veteran Simon Weston has been given a boost by Hollywood legend Paul Newman. Actor Newman has given a �19,500 donation to the charity run by the former Welsh Guardsman. Newman - famous for his film classics including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Colour of Money - met Weston while the ex-serviceman was running the New York Marathon. The two hit it off immediately and now Newman is backing Simon's charity. Simon, from Nelson in the South Wales valleys, runs the Weston Spirit aimed at helping underprivileged youngsters. The actor founded Newman's Own Food Company which gives 100% of its profits to charity.
Weston Spirit is dedicated to improving the lives of young people across Britain. The charity has bases in Cardiff and Liverpool as well as London. A Weston Spirit spokesperson said: "Paul and Simon got on very well when they met last year in America their common interest in helping the young has obviously brought them closer. "We feel very grateful that Paul Newman has thought about us especially as we are outside America.
