Ms Powell was taking a short break from reeling off numbers to regular punters hoping for a 10,000 maximum win when she was stunned to discover she had the winning ticket for a much bigger prize - the weekend National Lottery.
She said that although she regularly bought Lottery tickets, she had almost not bought a ticket in time for Saturday's draw. After receiving her cheque at a champagne reception in a Cardiff hotel, Ms Powell, who has a three-year-old daughter, Jessica, said she had made sure her boyfriend Wayne Lawrence said he loved her before she told him of the win.
"He said of course he did - but I didn't say anything about the lottery. I didn't have any doubts in my mind about what he would say - but I just wanted to hear him say it," she said. Ms Powell started bingo-calling to boost her earnings from her job in a clothes shop.
"At the moment we just don't know what we are going to do with all this money. "But I'd love Wayne and I to have a bigger family now - we just couldn't afford that in the past. Life has been a struggle but it looks as if all that is behind us. It's very exciting," she said. |
