MONMOUTHSHIRE
Caldicot Comprehensive
Inspected Dec 2001
No: Some assemblies were very moving occasions where music and pictures accompanied by sensitive commentary, helped pupils to consider the events of war and the implications for the human condition.
Other assemblies, however, did not challenge pupils to reflect deeply. Registration periods generally lack any spiritual element and the school does not meet statutory requirements with respect to acts of collective worship.
King Henry VIII Comprehensive School Old Hereford Road Abergavenny
Inspected April 2005
Yes: The arrangements for collective worship meet statutory requirements.
Monmouth Comprehensive School
Inspected February 2004
No: All pupils attend one act of collective worship, in the year group, every week. They are Christian in character, themes are effectively related to the life and work of the school and most include a relevant prayer or time to reflect.
Pupils show little respect for the occasion as they enter the hall. There is no music to help create an atmosphere of worship and pupils have no opportunities to contribute. The occasion is well used to celebrate pupils' achievements. On the remaining four days there is no act of collective worship and therefore the school does not meet statutory requirements.
