Mobile saves mountain crash boy
Off-road bike
Police urge off-road bikers to join an organised club
A 14-year-old boy used his mobile phone to save his life after receiving serious leg injuries in a motorbike accident on a mountain top, say police.

The boy was suffering from hypothermia when he was found at Newtown, Ebbw Vale, on Friday evening.

He was airlifted to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, where his condition was comfortable.

Police urged illegal users of off-road motorbikes to join an organised club to be taught skills and safety.

Gwent Police, South Wales Ambulance and Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene at 0725BST on Friday.

Police said if the boy had not had a phone with him, they could have been dealing with a death.

Police said off-road biking was "all too prevalent in uncontrolled and dangerous circumstances."
