Sex trafficking jury is sent home
Gjerji Mungiovi-Cuka
Gjerji Mungiovi-Cuka has denied trafficking the woman
A jury in the case of a student accused of trafficking a woman to work as a Cardiff prostitute has been sent home.

Gjergj Mungiovi-Cuka, 19, of Caldicot, denies trafficking the 21-year-old Lithuanian woman as part of a gang who "bought" her for 5,000.

Akil Likcami has admitted trafficking and controlling a prostitute while a third man said to be involved is still at large.

The jury at Cardiff Crown Court will continue its deliberations on Thursday.

In her evidence to the court the woman said the defendant had known she was working as a prostitute.

'Bought' in London

But Mr Mungiovi-Cuka has denied this, saying he had no idea that Likcami, 20, and a third man known as "Benny," were trafficking the woman for sexual exploitation.

The court has heard how the woman was "bought" in London for 5,000 after she was smuggled into the UK from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in January.

The woman, who had been working as a prostitute in Lithuania, was then brought to Cardiff and forced to work in three brothels - named in court as Executive Sauna in Whitchurch Road, No 19 in Bute Street and Abygale's massage parlour in Woodville Road.

The trial continues.
