French police probe rugby brawl
News image
French detectives investigating alleged incidents after the "Battle of Brive" will spend three to four days in Wales.

It follows incidents after a European Rugby Cup match between Brive and Pontypridd two years ago.

Following the hot tempered clash - which Ponty lost by one point - three Pontypridd players were arrested after a disturbance at a Brive night spot.

South Wales Police are not involved in the inquiry but have seconded two officers to the two-man French team to provide support.

Gas cylinder examined after fatal blast

A man has been killed in an explosion and fire at a garden shed in north Wales.

The accident happened at Sunningdale Close on the Goulbourne Estate at Wrexham.

Firemen called to the scene found the body of a man, believed to be in his 40s, inside the shed.

A specialist fire investigation team has been called in. They were examining a butane gas cylinder to see whether or not that is connected to the fire.

Bottom-slapping - policeman suspended

A police sergeant has been suspended after a complaint that he slapped a woman's bottom at the Brecon Jazz Festival.

The officer, who has not been named but is based in Newtown in Powys, has been told to stay away from work while senior officers investigate the allegation.

He was one of more than 50 officers from Dyfed-Powys force on duty at the popular festival when he was allegedly seen slapping the woman's backside.

It is the latest embarrassment for the force which three weeks ago paid 5,000 compensation to a trainee policewoman who was sexually harassed on a course.
