Five Welsh roads were listed in the report |
The A483 has been named as the most dangerous road in Wales in a report from the AA Motoring Trust. The survey found 61 people were killed or seriously injured in accidents on the road between the M4 in Carmarthenshire and Newtown, Powys between 2001 and 2003.
Twenty of these hurt or killed were motorcyclists, according to the survey. Four other Welsh roads were marked as between medium and high risk.
There were 29 people killed or injured on 53 km of the A40 between the A479 and Llandovery - 10 of whom were motorcyclists.
The A489 between Craven Arms and Caersws, the A44 from Leominster and Rhayader and the A479 between the A40 and the A470 at Llyswen were also listed.
The M4 in south Wales and the A55 in north Wales were designated low risk by researchers.
The A55 from Bangor to Holyhead was highlighted as one of the most improved roads, partly due to the construction of the A55 dual carriageway.
Bert Morris, AA Motoring Trust Director, said its analysis highlighted where resources could be targeted to save most lives.
"All roads can be made much safer for the great majority of responsible road users," he said.
