South Wales Police say armed officers were threatened

It followed a stand-off at a block of flats over several hours at North Walk on Sunday, when police said armed officers were threatened.

Police said a baton round was fired during the incident. The man, aged 39, was taken to hospital but his injuries were not said to be life-threatening.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed.

In a statement, police said that during Sunday evening armed officers were sent to North Walk after threats were made to officers trying to carry out an arrest.

"During the course of the arrest a baton round was discharged by officers in attendance," said the statement.

"As a result the man has sustained injuries which required hospital treatment.

"The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been notified of the incident and of the fact that a baton round has been discharged by the police.

"The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated."
