Forensic experts examined the scene where the baby was found |
Police believe they have traced the mother of a new-born baby whose body was found in a back garden in the Splott area of Cardiff last Saturday. Specially-trained officers from South Wales Police have spoken to the 15-year-old girl, who is from Splott.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Kennedy said: "She is currently seeking medical attention."
Around 20 officers were involved in the investigation, carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the area.
Det Ch Insp Kennedy, who led the investigation at Fairwater Police Station, also thanked the media "for their assistance in generating public awareness" in the case.
The naked child was found by a householder in his back garden in Railway Street last weekend.
Cardiff Councillor Alexandrina Evans said neighbours had been shocked by the discovery.
"Nearly everybody knows everyone else around here, and they all look out for one another so they will be totally devastated by this."
