The Queen's Dragoon Guards is comprised mainly of soldiers from Wales and will be based in the region for six months. Some 350 soldiers from the regiment will take over from The King's Royal Hussars, based in Produjevo, a town situated between the capital Pristina and the Serbian border in the north east of Kosovo.
Challenger 1 main battle tanks will be used during the tour of Kosovo. Two months ago, the Ministry of Defence had ruled out sending the Queen's Dragoon Guards to the region to add to the 8,000 British troops. Live firing In March, the regiment was involved in a two-week live firing exercise at Castlemartin Ranges in Pembrokeshire, using 26 of the Challenger tanks. Upon completion of its stay in Kosovo next February, the regiment will return to its barracks in Catterick, Yorkshire. |
