Opera singer Shan Cothi is performing at the Coal Exchange

A sell-out concert of Welsh-language performers was held in Bangor, while the Coal Exchange in Cardiff Bay is planning two similar events.

A night of DJs and bands at the Coal Exchange on Friday will include an appearance by Goldie Lookin' Chain.

Meanwhile, organisers of the stadium concert said it had now raised �1.3m.

A month on from the tsunami which devastated coastlines across southern Asia, fundraising in Wales for disaster relief is continuing.

Plaid Cymru president Dafydd Iwan returned to his roots as a folk singer to headline the Bangor University concert on Wednesday in aid of the Tsunami Relief appeal.

He was joined by Hogia'r Wyddfa, John ac Alun, C�r y Traeth, Annette Bryn Parry, Sharon Evans and Band Jas M�n a Gwynedd for the night, which was organised by staff at the DVLA's Bangor office.

Organisers said they expected the profits from the evening to exceed their original fundraising goal of �10,000, after all 675 tickets sold out.

In Cardiff, the Coal Exchange is gearing up for its own night of largely Welsh-language performers.

Bands and jugglers

Contributors to the �10-a-head event for Tsunami Relief Cymru on Wednesday will include opera singer Sh�n Cothi and stage performers Caryl Parry Jones and Peter Karrie.

The venue is also hosting a DJ and dance music night on Friday, when Newport comedy rappers Goldie Lookin' Chain - a hit with the Millennium Stadium concert audience - will meet and greet ticket holders.

They will be joined by actor Rhys Ifans, star of the film Notting Hill and the recent tv dramatisation of the life of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Ifans will also compere the evening's raffle.

BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens is one of the DJs for the night, along with the Wales-based tv team Dirty Sanchez.

Money raised by the �15 tickets for the event, which includes four bands as well as five jugglers, is for the Disaster Emergency Committee.

Spokesman John Giwa-Amu said: "Rhys also has a Tracey Emin sketch planned."

Friday and Saturday night also see a production of The Pied Piper at the Dragon Theatre in Barmouth, north Wales, with proceeds to tsunami relief.

Meanwhile, the proceeds from Saturday's Millennium Stadium concert will increase with an auction of concert memorabilia.

This will include signed photos by some of the artists performing, as well as stadium manager Paul Sergeant's "lucky" multicoloured sweater.
